Hockey Celebrities Come Out To Honor Ace Bailey

MANCHESTER, NH — Kathy Bailey, her son Todd Bailey and members of their family will be joined by an A-List of hockey celebrities for the 11th annual Ace Bailey Golf Classic at Manchester Country Club in Bedford, New Hampshire, on Monday, June 11.  In addition to the Bailey family, Boston Bruins legends Ray Bourque and Don Marcotte will be joined by former Monarchs players Derek Bekar, Brendan Buckley, Sam Ftorek, Jeff Giuliano, Eric Healey, Doug Nolan and Richard Seeley on the links.

Additional celebrity golfers include former Monarchs assistant coach Bobby Jay, Bruins Rinkside Reporter for NESN Naoko Funayama, former Bruins and former Los Angeles Kings head coach Robbie Ftorek, United States Olympic Gold Medalist Katie King Crowley and former St. Louis Blues player Dick Lamby.

The Monarchs Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Monarchs, will host this year's tournament with proceeds from the event earmarked for The Mom's Place at Catholic Medical Center and the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation.

The Ace Bailey Golf Classic is held annually to honor the memory of Garnet "Ace" Bailey, who served as the Kings Director of Pro Scouting until his death on September 11, 2001.  Bailey was a passenger aboard United Flight 175 and was lost in the tragic events of that day.

"It is a special honor for the Monarchs Care Foundation and our celebrity attendees to participate in this annual event in remembrance of Ace," said Darren Abbott, President of the Monarchs.  "Ace was a special part of the Los Angeles Kings organization in addition to the hockey community.  He had a fun-loving and jovial demeanor that touched everyone that he met.  Our tournament has raised upwards of $320,000 over the last 10 years and we remain fully committed to raising money in Ace's memory to celebrate his life and his love for children."

Registration for this year's tournament is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 11 with a shotgun start slated for 12:00 p.m.  Lunch will be provided for those competing in the tournament with an awards dinner as well as both a live and silent auction to follow the action on the course.  The auctions will feature sports memorabilia from some of the biggest names in sports.  A fifth celebrity player will accompany each foursome on the course.

Limited space remains for additional foursomes.  For more information on how to participate or how to become a tournament sponsor, contact Kimberly Mueller, the Monarchs Vice President of Public Affairs, at (603) 626-7825 extension 6105 or visit the Monarchs online at www.manchestermonarchs.com.   Mueller can also be reached by email at kmueller@manchestermonarchs.com.
